5 Secret Beaches Near Paphos — Locals Only

Everyone knows Coral Bay. But the real magic happens at the beaches most tourists never find. After years of living in Paphos, we've discovered quiet coves, dramatic rock formations and crystal-clear swimming spots that remain blissfully uncrowded — even in peak season. Here are our five favourites.

01

Lara Bay — The Turtle Nesting Beach

This is the most remote and rewarding beach on this list. Lara Bay sits at the edge of the Akamas Peninsula — no hotels, no beach bars, just golden sand and endangered green turtles who nest here from June to September. The drive in on dirt roads is an adventure itself.

📍 35 min drive 🚗 4WD recommended 🏖️ Sandy, no facilities
02

White River Beach (Aspros Potamos)

Tucked between Paphos and Pissouri, this narrow strip of pebble beach is invisible from the road. You reach it through a dry riverbed — hence the name. The water is absurdly clear, and in spring you'll often have it completely to yourself. Perfect for snorkelling.

📍 20 min drive 🚗 Regular car OK 🏖️ Pebbles, no facilities
03

Geroskipou Beach — The Local Secret

While tourists pack Coral Bay, Paphos locals head to Geroskipou's public beach. It's long, sandy, and has a proper lifeguard in summer. The real secret? Walk 300 metres east past the last sunbed and you'll find a quiet stretch with natural shade from tamarisk trees.

04

Toxeftra Beach — Aphrodite's Secret Cove

Everyone stops at Aphrodite's Rock for the photo. But walk 400 metres west along the coast path and you'll reach Toxeftra — a dramatic cove surrounded by pale limestone cliffs. The swimming is spectacular, and sunset here rivals anything in Santorini.

05

Pachyammos — The Reef Walk Beach

This tiny beach near the Paphos lighthouse gets overlooked because it's "not fancy enough" for the guidebooks. That's exactly why we love it. At low tide, you can walk out on flat reef rock to natural pools teeming with small fish. Bring water shoes and a snorkel mask.

📍 12 min walk from apartment 🚶 Walking distance! 🏖️ Rocky, natural pools
What to bring: Water shoes (essential for rocky beaches), reef-safe sunscreen, a snorkel mask, and plenty of water. None of these hidden beaches have shops or cafes nearby — that's part of their charm.

Getting There

All five beaches are accessible from the apartment. Lara Bay requires a car (ideally 4WD), but the others work with any rental car. For Pachyammos, you can literally walk from the apartment in 12 minutes.

We're happy to mark these spots on a map for you when you arrive — just ask Konstantina. Some of these beaches don't appear on Google Maps, which is exactly why they stay uncrowded.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are hidden beaches in Paphos safe for swimming?
Most are safe in calm weather, but always check conditions. Rocky beaches like Pachyammos require water shoes. Lara Bay and Toxeftra have no lifeguards — swim at your own risk and never alone.
Can I reach these beaches without a car?
Pachyammos is a 12-minute walk from Lovely Ap. Geroskipou Beach is reachable by Bus 631. The others require a car. We can help arrange a rental when you arrive.
What is the best time to visit hidden beaches near Paphos?
April to June and September to October offer warm water, fewer crowds and comfortable temperatures. July and August are hottest — go early morning. Winter visits are scenic but swimming is cold.
Do I need a 4WD to reach Lara Bay?
A 4WD is recommended but not strictly required in dry conditions. The dirt road from Agios Georgios is rough but passable with a regular car if you drive slowly. After rain, 4WD is essential.
Are these beaches suitable for children?
Geroskipou Beach is the best for families — sandy, shallow entry, lifeguard in summer. Pachyammos natural pools are fun for older kids with water shoes. Lara Bay and Toxeftra are better for adults.
